Gretchen D. Meyncke (1893-1941) was born in Indianapolis and remained active in the state until her death. She received her Masters degree from Indiana University and concentrated on Indian Oral History. While there, she also studied painting under attended the Herron School of Art under William Forsyth. She exhibited in the Hoosier Salon and won many awards at the Indiana State Fair during the 1930’s. She has most of her pieces in private collections and at the Morris Art Museum in Georgia.
