“William Edouard Scott was an African American (and also part Native American) artist who studied under Otto Stark at Manual High School in Indianapolis. By virtue of his talent, he went on to study at Herron, Chicago Art Institute, the Art Students League and under Harry Ossawa Tanner in Paris. Scott was a well-known muralist and his work was installed in buildings in Indianapolis, the greater Midwest and even Washington, D.C. Today’s preview, Cockfight, is a wonderful circular composition (a.k.a tondo) full of neat design elements.”
