Eleanor Brockenbrough was born in Lafayette, IN in 1880. She studied painting at the Art Institute of Chicago. In addition, she studied privately with Eric Pape of Boston, Frederick F. Fursman of Saugatuck, MI, and Charles Hawthorne and Hugh Breckenridge of Gloucester, MA. She returned to Indiana and began building a reputation as an accomplished landscape painter. She participated in numerous exhibits of Indiana painters, winning Second Prize at the Annual Exhibition of Work by Indiana Artists in 1925. She was also active in local artist associations and was elected the first woman president of the Lafayette Art Association in 1929. Her work is in the collections of various local institutions, including the Indiana Memorial Union at Indiana University, the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette, and the Fort Wayne Museum of Art.
