Cecil Head was born near Lebanon, Indiana, in 1906. He graduated from the Herron Art Institute in 1929. He shared a studio with "Floyd Hopper":/artists/by_name/floyd_d_hopper and "William Kaeser":/artists/by_name/william_frederick_kaeser in the Old Union Trust Building on Market Street. They were known as the Market Street Artists. Cecil stopped painting to work full time around 1942 and began painting again in 1980. He was instrumental in the development of the Southside art league in Greenwood IN. Cecil passed away at the age of 89 in 1995. His scholarship to high school students is made available each year through the Indianapolis Museum of Art. (Submitted by a site visitor)
