Elizabeth Stouder was born in Marion, IN in 1902. She received a nursing degree from Indiana University. She did not begin her formal art training until her children were in high school, in the mid-1940s. She studied at the Art Center School in Louisville, KY, the Oxbow School of Painting in Saugatuck, MI, and at the Art Students League Summer School in Woodstock, NY. Elizabeth moved to Evansville, IN from Louisville in 1955. In addition to teaching at the University of Evansville and the Evansville Museum of Art and Scientists, Elizabeth actively continued her personal painting efforts. She participated in many group and solo shows in Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky throughout the latter half of her life. Source: Skirting the Issue, by Newton and Weiss
