James Edgar Forkner was born in 1867 in Richmond, Indiana. He received his training at the Art Student League in New York, studying with Irving Wiles, J. Carroll Beckwith, Frank Vincent DuMond and William Merritt Chase. An early member of the Richmond Group, Forkner worked alongside John Bundy and others to establish the Art Association there. After a few years in Richmond, he went up to Chicago to teach watercolor at the Auditorium Tower studios. He later went onto Seattle, becoming active in the art colony there, painting scenes along the harbor coast. Adept at painting harbor scenes and floral still lifes, Forkner exhibited for more than twenty years in the Hoosier Salon, winning numerous awards for best watercolor. His Hoosier Salon award winner, "Old Vase of Flowers" was exhibited in the 1933 World's Fair. Forkner was also a member of the Puget Sound Group of Northwest Painters and won awards at exhibits held at the Art Museum in Seattle. He also exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy and the Chicago Art Institute. Forkner died in Seattle, Washington in 1945. We are extremely interested in purchasing works by James Edward Forkner.
