Ellsworth Woodward along with his brother William arrived in New Orleans around 1876. He taught at Tulane High School and as well as Tulane College under his brother. Ellsworth was instrumental in the founding of Newcomb College and served as the first Dean of the Newcomb School of Art. A position he maintained for forty years.
