Wife of J. Ottis Adams and a very good artist in her own right. Her main subject matter was in still life painting. She put her art on hold while raising the Adams children and began painting after her children were grown. She studied at the Muncie Art Institute, where she met J. Ottis Adams, and was initially a student of his. She was also a student of William Forsyth while there. She then went on to study at Drexel institute of Art in Philadelphia, and at the Art Students League in New York City where she studied under William Merritt Chase - one of the most apparent influences on her work. After moving back to Indiana she and J. Ottis Adams were married and proceeded to have several children. Within a few years they moved from Muncie to Brown County where J. Ottis Adams continued his life as an artist. After their children had grown and her husband had passed, Winifred began to paint more and finished her life as a modest artist. She passed in Muncie in 1955. --- We're very interested in purchasing pieces by Winifred Brady Adams. Please contact us if you artwork you are considering selling.
