Harold Buck was born in Henderson, Kentucky in 1909. Residing in Indianapolis, Indiana since childhood he got most of his art education there,majoring in art at Manual High School and attending John Herron Art Institute.Buck also had advanced instruction courses from William Forsythe, Simon Baus, Effie Carter and George Cherpov in Indianapolis.Although most of his paintings depicted Indiana landscape it might be noticed in some of his paintings his love for the east coast and the influence from classes with artist Emil Gruppe of Gloucester, Massachusetts. Buck is remembered by many artist in the Indianapolis area by his inspiration and teaching for over 25 years at his studio, Pro Art Studio in Beech Grove, and East Side Art Center in Indianapolis plus many other workshops and demonstrations. Buck was a fellowship member of the Brown County Art Gallery Association in Nashville, Indiana, artist member of the Hoosier Art Salon, associate member of the Indiana Artist Club,and has earned Honorary Life Memberships with: Indianapolis North East Pallette, Southside Art League in Greenwood, Indiana, Artist Guild of Indiana, Beech Grove Art League, Indiana, and Marion County Art League of Indianapolis, IN. Of the many techniques he was acquainted with, his favorite was oil and acrylic painting. Harold enjoyed life as an artist with his family and friends on the lakes in the Nineveh, IN area until his passing in1990. Written and submitted March 2005 by Luke Buck, son of the artist.
