Born in France to a New Orleans family, Richard Clague was educated abroad including in Geneva and Paris. His study of art was long and he developed his method in the Barbizon Style which emphasized a plein air style. He settled in New Orleans around 1860 and by the end of the civil war, most of his considerable inheritance was lost. He supported himself by painting and teaching the rest of his life. We are very interested in purchasing artwork by Richard Clague. If you have pieces you are considering selling, please don't hesitate to contact us.
