re: Von Williamson

An artist for most of his life, Von Williamson was known for oil and watercolor landscapes and also worked in metals, pastels, oils and clay. In addition, he was a poet, philosopher and published author. At the time of his death, he was the sole, native-born artist currently exhibiting at the Brown County art gallery. A member of Hoosier Salon from the 1950s until the 1990s, Von Williamson had oil paintings juried into the Hoosier Salon's annual exhibit as follows: 1988- "Alone" 1989- "Submission to Autumn" 1997- "Heavy Autumn", & "Rhapsodical Stuff" 1998- "New Morning" Born Aug. 3, 1924, in Brown County, IN, between the towns of Story and Stonehead on the family farm, Williamson was the 10th of 11 children. He lived on OLD SR 46 on the eastern edge of Nashville, and was a charter member of Brown County Historical society in the 1950s. On his writing career, Von reflected on writing career which led to published works "East of the Equator" and "Short Stories from an Artists Perspective". "I have fun writing. I don't care about selling them; I just care about writing them." Love of the written word got him thinking about seeking out poets who called the county home. One problem- he couldn't find any poets. After placing an ad in the local newspaper, the "Brown County Democrat", between 30 and 40 people attended the first meeting of Wrap Scallions, a local poetry club. Williamson's most recent accomplishment was production of CD titled "Red White and Blue Hornet's Nest", Short Stories read by Pat Webb. Von Williamson was described in his local news obituary as a "well-known Brown County original". He died after a long illness on Tuesday April 30, 2002, at the Bloomington, IN, hospital. Written and submitted July 2005 by Darin Lawson, CAI, Wickliff & Associates Auctioneers, Inc. Sources include: "The Brown County Democrat, Nashville, IN" The Hoosier Salon, Indianapolis, IN
