Sara Foresman Bard was born in Slippery Rock, PA, and studied at Stevenson's Art School in Pittsburgh, Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, Art Institute of Chicago, and Grand Central School of Art in New York. Outside of school, Sara studied with Henry B. Snell, George Pearse Ennis, and Sigurd Skou, the founder of the Grand Central Art Galleries. Sara exhibited widely throughout the East Coast and around Indiana, becoming well-known as a regional landscape and marine painter. In addition to her professional art pursuits, Sara taught art at Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis for decades, even mentoring future artists Robert Indiana and Garo Antresian. During summer vacations, she frequently painted in Booth Bay Harbor and Eastport, Maine and in western Pennsylvania. She studied under Henry B. Snell, George Pearse Ennis, and Sigourd Skou. She was a member of the National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors, the American Watercolor Society, and the Chicago Artists' Guild. She was also a member of the Hoosier Salon, awarded in 1929, 1931, 1934, and 1936. She became a fine art instructor at Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis but was also known for her regional landscapes and marine paintings.
