Part of the Richmond (IN) School. Studied under John Elwood Bundy and Randolph Coats. Cathell worked for Hill's Roses in Richmond. Hill's hybridized roses and applied for patents for their creations. Cathell was responsible for painting faithful renderings of their new varieties for submission with the patenting process.
