Elizabeth Driggs was born in Indianapolis in 1881, and studied art at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Art Students League in New York. Her instructors in Chicago included John H. Vanderpoel, John Johansen, Martha Baker, Frederick Richardson, and Frederick Warren Freer. While in New York, Elizabeth studied with William Merritt Chase and Howard Pyle. Elizabeth worked in oil, painting portraits and still lifes, in additiont to large decorative mythological paintings. Her work was shown in various group exhibitions in Indianapolis, Richmond, and Chicago. She won two awards for her work in 1926 at the annual Hoosier Salon and the Indiana State Fair. In addition to painting professionally, Elizabeth taught Saturday children's classes at the John Herron Art Institute from 1902-05. She was also an accomplished writer, servicing as the art critic for the Indianapolis News in 1922, and writing a weekly newsletter for the John Herron Art Institute from 1926-28.
