Reynolds L. Selfridge, commonly referred to as ‘Sandy’, was originally from the southern part of Indiana. He attended DePauw University where he majored in Sociology and Economics and later went on to study at the John Herron Art Institute under William Forsyth. Selfridge was an artist that showed much variation in his style and specialized in landscapes and portrait work. He is said to have had a very direct and bold method of expression and preferred working in his studio, rather than out in the open. Selfridge went on to be an art teacher at Technical High School before he took a leave of absence to study abroad. He later became a member of the faculty at the John Herron Institute of Art as well. He won many prizes and awards at various exhibitions, notably at Chicago and Indianapolis Exhibitions, along with the Indiana State Fair. He was a member of the Indiana Artist’s Club. Lastly, the work he did in Paris was exhibited at the Lieber Gallery in 1927. IMA Library Artist Files
