Gustaf Dalstrom was born in Gotland, Sweden in 1893 and immigrated to United States to study at the Art Institute of Chicago. While there, he received the Logan Award and a Gold Medal for excellence. Much of his professional career was spent at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, creating authentic backgrounds and dioramas for the various exhibits. He continued to paint on his own, and participated in various solo shows at the Art Institute, in addition to several national exhibitions. Dalstrom was also a long-serving president of the Chicago Society of Artists.
