The following information was submitted by a site visitor: Chauncey Foster Ryder (1868-1949) was born in Danbury, Connecticut. He studied painting and abstraction, which was unheard of during his early years. However, once abstraction became mainstream, he fell out of the spotlight. People regard him as a master poetic landscape painter, but Ryder also did a series of seascapes, lithographs, and dry points. He was very popular along the east coast, especially in New York. He died in Wilton, New Hampshire.
