The following information was submitted by a site visitor: Ernest Christian Rost (1866-1940) was born in Mt. Vernon, New York. He was the son of Christian Rost, a successful etcher. He exhibited landscapes in the mid 1880’s at venues such as the National Academy of Design in cottages or rivers. During the Spanish-American War he was sent to Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines as a photographer to document the period. In 1894 he sued his agents for reproducing his etchings and forging his signature but did not win. Toward the end of his life, he began writing, but no longer created artwork.
