The following information was submitted by a site visitor: Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. (1922-current) was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. He attended Shortridge High School and later attended Butler University for a short time before transferring to Cornell. He fought in the Army during WWII and received a purple heart for his participation in the Battle of the Bulge. He is a distinguished author of books such as Breakfast of Champions and A Man Without A Country. His work as an artist began with creating his own illustrations for the book slaughterhouse-Five and he later pursued silkscreen printing with Joe Petro III. He recently created an album cover for the band Phish called Hook Line and Sinker, Which is currently exhibited at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Vonnegut often signs his name with an 8-point asterisk which is said to signify an ‘asshole.’
