The following information was submitted by a site visitor: Thelma Confer 1924-current) is an oil painter now residing in Southport, Indiana. She received her B.F.A from Herron School of Art in Indianapolis and later taught at the Indianapolis Art League. Her portfolio ranges from large abstract compositions to figural compositions of everyday life. In 1971, Confer began a project to paint a series on Indiana History. She focused on politics, religion, education, culture, and natural resources. The final grouping of 52 paintings showcases historical structures from prehistoric to the present such as the first state capitol, the Benjamin Harrison home, and also natural features such as the Wabash River. Confer has exhibited widely throughout the state at venues such as the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Hoosier Salon, and the Mid-States Exhibit in Evansville. Re received a Certificate of Commendation by the American Association for State and Local History in 1977 for her Indiana History series.
