Alyce June Burkholder was born in Westerville, Ohio in 1892. She attended Ohio State University and studied art at the Fontainebleau School of Fine Arts in France. While in France, She studied with Jacques Villon.

Upon her return to the United States, Alyce studied with V.J. Cariani and L.O. Griffith in Nashville, Indiana and Sister Rufinia in Lafayette, Indiana. She also studied with Arnold Turtle of Chicago, Robert Brackman of New York, and Jerry Farnsworth of Sarasota, Florida.

She participated in numerous exhibitions around Indiana, including the Hoosier Salon in Chicago, from 1938-41, and the Hoosier Salon in Indianapolis, from 1942-48, 1950-58, 1961-62, and 1964-66. She was an accomplished painter, specializing in florals and still lifes in oil.

In addition to her personal work, Alyce also taught painting in Lafayette, Indianapolis, and Chicago. She also illustrated a published series of plant diseases for Purdue University’s botany department.
