The following information was submitted by a site visitor: Edmund Burke Kellogg (1809-1872) and Elijah Chapman Kellogg (1811-1881) were brothers in the printmaking business during the 19th century. E.C. was trained as a newspaper printer and E.C. had studied engraving. Both men joined their other brother Daniel’s printing firm in the 1840’s. They specialized in mass-produced lithographs like their competitors Currier & Ives, Some prints actually being simultaneously manufactured by both firms. They published work drawn by other artists on subjects such as the Civil War, religion, home life, and political figures. Their prints remained black and white or hand-colored until the invention of color ink printing. Like Currier and Ives, these prints became a part of middle class pop-culture of the time and hung on many Indiana residence walls.
