Will Henry Stevens Mountain Landscape Mountain Landscape --- This painting was featured in our 9/2/2022 weekly newsletter. "Will Henry Stevens was from Vevay, IN and studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati and the Art Students League. He was active in North Carolina and eventually on faculty at Newcomb College in New Orleans. These two abstract floral landscapes are very representative of his later period during which his interest in abstraction colored much of his output." Pastel on paper Unsigned

Simon Paul Baus Midnight Drive Midnight Drive Recently conserved; recent frame. --- This painting was featured in our 8/26/2022 weekly newsletter. “Simon Baus studied under Otto Stark at Manual High School and under William Forsyth and J. Ottis Adams at Herron. He’d planned on attending Purdue to study engineering but instead opted for a career in the US Postal Service where he remained for 45 years. Despite working full time, Baus was an extraordinarily prolific painter over a career that spanned his entire adult life. He exhibited scores of times in the Hoosier Salon Annual Exhibition and was associated with seemingly all the touchstone events and personalities in 20th Century Indiana art. For the last few years we’ve been representing the Simon Baus artistic estate and have had many good pieces come to light for the first time. Today’s paintings are the same in that respect – this is their market debut! A really strong painting. Midnight Drive (c. 1955) reflects a more ‘modern’ Baus doing hard edges and a slightly skewed perspective. Both are exhibition size works, conserved and nicely framed. And speaking plainly, they’re probably the last really good Baus pieces that we will bring to market." Oil on Board Signed Lower Right

For the last few years we’ve been representing the Simon Baus artistic estate and have had many good pieces come to light for the first time. Today’s paintings are the same in that respect – this is their market debut! Inter-Urban (c. 1935) was created during Baus’ social realism phase of the 1930s. It’s a narrative and typically, full of figures and action. Old and young, women and men, black and white, many hats and unsafe travel conditions as that little girl commands the stage. A really strong painting." --- This painting sold at our 10/2/22 Fall Curated Sale of Historic Fine Art. Oil on Board Signed Lower Right
