The setting for this piece is Brown County, IN. Recently cleaned; contains minimal in-painting; recent frame.

"Derk Smit was born in the Netherlands and emigrated to Chicago in his 20s, where he worked as an interior decorator as he took up a love for painting. He 'retired' to Brown County around 1950 where he lived and painted for around five years before double-retiring to Laguna Beach, CA in the mid 1950s where he remained the balance of his long life. He produced a steady output of oils from both locations.
Today's first painting, The Red Barn, is a Brown County piece, nicely executed and very typical of his impressionistic Brown County landscapes. It is in excellent condition, nicely framed and ready to hang." |
